How It Works
The essence of the PRP treatment is not to treat the problem superficially relying only on surface-level methods, but to stimulate your own body to produce the required resources for tissue repair and regeneration
A platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrate of platelets and plasma proteins derived from your own whole blood by centrifuging it to remove red blood cells and other unwanted components.
It is an autologous treatment (you are both the donor and the recipient) and it is a concentrated preparation of your own platelets.
Platelets contain numerous growth factors vital for tissue regeneration and repair. The growth promoting properties accelerate the repair of aged and damaged tissues, with common applications including facial rejuvenation and hair loss.
PRP is a safe, low-risk, efficient, and convenient treatment that minimizes the chances of allergic reactions or rejection.
PRP therapy is renowned for its ability to naturally stimulate collagen production and accelerate the body’s own healing processes.
PRP has shown great results in facial rejuvenation by harnessing the ability of platelets to improve skin texture, and tighten skin, resulting in diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and freckles.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy – a cutting-edge approach to acne scar removal – has emerged as a game-changer in the treatment of acne scars. PRP harnesses the body’s natural healing abilities to promote collagen production and scar repair.
Another sector where PRP Therapy has shown excellent outcomes is in the treatment of hair loss. PRP injections stimulate inactive hair follicles, boost blood flow to the targeted area, and promote hair growth for patients suffering from hair thinning or alopecia. PRP therapy nourishes the existing hair follicles, controls further damage and helps in the growth of healthier hair.

How do I prepare for my PRP treatment?
In order to optimize the results and minimize side effects, we advise to follow the recommendations below:
- You may take Arnica 3-5 pellets, 3 times a day starting 2 days before, the day of and 2 days post treatment. This will help to decrease the risk of bruising.
- Make sure that you hydrate well the day before and the day of treatment.
- On the day of treatment, please make sure you have eaten a normal breakfast or lunch.
- No Accutane use in the past 6 months. The use of Accutane will significantly impact the effectiveness of the PRP treatment.
- Avoid the following for at least 1 week prior to your procedure to obtain best results, minimize bruising, and promote healing:
-
- Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn,
- Systemic steroids (anti-inflammatory) Prednisone, Dexamethasone.
- Avoid the following for 48 hours to minimize bruising and promote healing:
-
- Nutritional supplements – gingko, garlic, Vitamin E, flax oil, curcumin, Omega-3 and any other anti-inflammatory supplements.
- Cigarettes
- Alcohol
- Please notify your PRP provider if you are taking any blood thinners such as Coumadin, Plavix or Heparin, or any others – as these can impact platelet count and function, therefore decreasing PRP effectiveness.
- Avoid retinol (vitamin A) and glycolic acids at least 2 days before due to increased risk of skin irritation and sensitivity.
For hair restoration, in addition, incorporate the following:
- Shower the morning of your treatment and wash your hair thoroughly using your regular shampoo. Do not apply gels, hair sprays or any other styling products.
- Hair coloring is fine up to 3 days before your procedure
How is the procedure done?
The procedure is done in two stages. At the first stage, 23 ml of the patient’s venous blood is collected and processed in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets and plasma. In the second stage, the plasma and platelets are injected under the skin in the desired area. Once back in the body, concentrated platelets begin to actively stimulate collagen and hyaluronic acid production, and formation of new blood vessels and cells.
How long are the treatments?
Treatments tend to last about 30 minutes for each treatment area, including 10 minutes for numbing if required.
How often and how many treatments will I need?
Some patients will experience changes within one treatment, but individual results may vary. On average, patients would receive treatment once a month for 3 to 4 months, up to 6 months, depending on the condition. Most patients will see the results after just 3 treatments due to the superior ability of our system to achieve pure sample with high concentration of PRP. Consult with our clinic staff to develop a plan that is best suited for your desired outcome.
Is PRP Therapy painful?
Many patients can tolerate the PRP procedure without anesthesia. When local anesthesia is required, our clinical providers will apply a numbing cream to the treatment area to ensure the ease on the patient.
Are there medical studies that document the effectiveness of PRP Therapy?
When it comes to the effectiveness of the procedure, numerous medical studies and clinical trials have documented the impressive results of PRP Therapy across various medical conditions. From improved joint function to enhanced skin rejuvenation and hair regrowth, the evidence speaks volumes about the transformative potential of PRP Therapy.
In conclusion, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy represents a paradigm shift in modern medicine, offering a holistic approach to healing, restoring and regenerating tissues to achieve desired results.
Whether you’re seeking rejuvenation for aging skin or solutions for hair loss, PRP Therapy holds the promise of a brighter, healthier and more evident solution.

Does PRP work for Acne Scars?
How long will it take to see results once I begin my PRP treatment?
On average, most people would observe results within 3 – 6 months after the start of PRP treatment for hair.
Results for facial treatment would generally be noticed within 2 – 4 weeks. However, some people would see the results shortly after their first treatment.
Does my diet affect my platelet function?
Consuming folate-rich foods will help boost platelet function, which includes: Green-leafy vegetables like kale, spinach and asparagus
Avoiding foods high in saturated fat, excess sugar and processed/refined sugar to prevent platelets from sticking to each other.
Avoiding caffeine due to reduction in platelet activation, this includes coffee, teas, sodas, energy drink, and chocolate.
Eliminating tobacco and alcohol prior to treatment can help platelets restore their normal function.
What can you expect after treatment?
Mild inflammation, redness and swelling, itching and/or soreness for a few days (2-5) – these are common to any injection procedure.
If there are any tiny bumps, rest easy, this will go away in a few hours after treatment.
Normal to have pin prick bleeding noticeable on the scalp post procedure.
It is normal to feel firmness in the injection site for a few days post treatment. This will soften over time.
The following restrictions will help promote a smooth healing process.
AVOID touching, pressing rubbing or any form of manipulation to the treated area for at least 8 hours after treatment.
AVOID Advil, Aleve, Aspirin, Ibuprofen Motrin and Naprosyn 2 weeks post treatment.
AVOID Nutritional supplements – Gingko, garlic, Vitamin E, Flax oil, Curcumin and any other anti-inflammatory supplements 2 weeks after your treatment.
AVOID alcohol, caffeine and smoking for 3 days after treatment to promote platelet activity and prevent excess inflammation.
AVOID high heat (sauna, steam room, very hot showers) for 24 hours post treatment.
AVOID direct sun and use a physical SPF daily.
Continue increased water intake the first week after your treatment.
For facial PRP: wash face after 4 –5 hours with tepid water and apply a gentle post care moisturizing cream. No perfume-based cream.
For hair PRP: for a minimum of 5 hours post your PRP treatment, do NOT wash your scalp.
After 24 hours, you can use hair products again.
Results from PRP injection will vary based on natural variation of platelets and lifestyle. We recommend a series of 3-6 treatments administered at 4-weeks intervals.
